A well organised tour allows the visitor to discover some of the most important natural heritage of this area. Our company organises guided tours, primarily aimed at the discovery of the mountain “Supramonte”. The mountain tours are led by expert guides, so that tourists can really experience the untouched and unique natural heritage full of charming and mysterious places. The guided tours aren’t just about visiting the countryside, but also about discovering the traces left by man, like the quaint old shepherds’ huts “sos pinnettos” and the tracks left by goatherders. Our experienced and capable guides will also point out the various properties (including medicinal properties) of some of the endemic vegetation which is to be found in abundance in the Supramonte area. Lastly, information will be given on the wildlife inhabiting the mountain such as the golden eagle, mountain goat and wild boar. he guided tours are carried out in off-road jeeps, which are ideal for the difficult and rugged dirt tracks of the Supramonte. Every now and again it will be possible to stop off and trek along the paths which can’t be reached by jeep, giving you a chance to really experience the wilderness of this area. Before starting off your guides will give you a run down of all the information and instructions you need to ensure the trip goes well. Alternative tours are available, bearing in mind the requirements of different age groups, making it possible for everybody to experience the mysterious and untouched scenery of the ancient island of Sardinia. Barbagia 2000 is based in Orgosolo, one of the most charming towns of the “real” Barbagia. One of the most interesting attractions of the town is definitely its murals. The company offers guided tours of the town, aimed at discovering these beautiful wall paintings. Your expert guide will give you the chance to admire them and explain why Orgosolo became “the town of murals”*. The guide will also draw comparisons to other towns, in Sardinia, Europe and the world, which have a similar tradition. There are many churches which can be visited in and around Orgosolo. The guided tour begins at the cript of the blessed Antonia Mesina (a young Sardinian woman), beatified in Rome in 1987 by Pope Giovanni Paolo ll. Situated opposite the church containing the cript is the house where she was born. The tour then carries on to the nearby churches of Sant’Antonio Abate, Sant’Antonio da Padova, San Pietro and Santa Croce and the church of the Beata Vergine Assunta. This latter contains frescos from the 1600’s and a precious statue of the Madonna Dormiente (sleeping Madonna) which is carried throughout the town during a religious procession, held on the 15th August. The guided tour then continues to the countyside chapels of, San Marco, San’Anania and San’Antioco, which are immersed in the greenery along the road that goes from Orgosolo to the Supramonte.
